PROMPT — Joy is ...
Those birds…
Flying mere millimeters above my head
Wings whipping, slapping the brim of my ironically adorned Orioles cap
Circling and darting at heaping plates of pancakes, eggs and mango
Tropical squawks enmeshed in the fabric of sunny shores
Landing on my table now, talons scratching against heavily lacquered teak
Looking at me expectantly, smarmily, knowingly
An entire croissant snatched, beak clanking porcelain
Pineapple circles flung far and wide, pecked clean to the core
Victorious coos under the bright morning sun, burning off the night’s tears
And not an empty avian stomach in sight
Then it ends, to circle back tomorrow
Awaiting the sweet, jarring sounds made
Those birds…
