The Box

By Molly Arbuthnott

PROMPT — The way I see it ...

I carried my box of books

and got rather strange looks

as it fell from my arms yet again.

It all began yesterday when

I was late (as usual) and missed the post.

I wanted to be the most

organized and on it

and never let anyone down,

turn those frowns upside down.

But now, at least, it can help me get fit...

running to another post office, as my jacket splits.

(that extra burger was completely legit…)

We can sometimes carry extra weight that we really don’t need,

but it is easier to be weighed down than to be freed,

easier to live a life where things go wrong than right…

where doing well can give you a bit of a fright,

as what do you strive for when you’re happy and content?

Nothing to hide behind, no excuses…

an honest, true you the situation produces.

The real skill is finding happiness in both,

as from there you radiate happiness, kindness and growth.
