Dog Night

By Jeremiah K Durick

PROMPT — The way I see it ...

There’s one out there, 2 or 3 in the morning

wakes me and gets me wondering

why he or she is barking this late and why is

he/she out. Did the owner get up let the dog out

then forget the rest of what’s expected?

Is the dog at the door trying to get back in

or barking about one of those things that

dogs warn about – another animal, a burglar

and/or an array of other things? Someone needs

to check, needs to let the dog back in or see

what the matter is, or at least get the dog to stop.

After all, it’s 2 or 3 in the morning

and neighbors need to sleep and stop worrying

why that poor dog is barking.
