DEATH WALKS BESIDE ME

By Kathleen Poncher

PROMPT — The way I see it ...

death walks beside me

on majestic mountain trails

and in murky hospital halls

i see you in ritual civility and tortured angst

you once came to extinguish my light

but my flame lives on still

as we move thru life, i feel our syntony grow strong

like practiced dancing partners, moving together in harmony

this is the inextricable truth that both fears and comforts me

there is an ecstasy in death that i hope to be mirrored in life..

the embrace of unity and freedom from mind

my lime to LEAVE with you is not now my friend

but when you call me anon, i will go lovingly

because you have been beside me all my life

Kathleen Poncher is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Her approach to healthcare celebrates the co-existence of western medicine and its knowledge of the structural-organic body with Traditional Chinese Medicine's understanding of the mind-body connection. Kathleen's avid interest in holistic healing was developed in tandem with her western medical training. Patient care is her greatest passion. In that vein, she developed a lecture series on "Patient Interviewing Skills" that has been integrated into Emperor's College master's curriculum, presented at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in NYC, and as a CEU Module to licensed acupuncturists in California. Kathleen has also taught advanced meditation techniques to both large groups and private students for over forty years. Poetry has been her passion throughout her life. It helps her define and understand her feelings and the world around her, giving Kathleen the ground to support herself in moving forward both physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. She writes from Santa Monica, CA
