By John P Drudge

PROMPT—No one noticed ...
It clicks and clacks
Through time
Like jack boots
On government marble
New forms of idolatry
And poisoned messages
From a darker time
Anger
Mistrust
And hatred
Twisting into whipping posts
Of virulent fear
Breaking the seams
That split us into
Fragments of ourselves
Falling steadily
Out of grace
And growing suspicious
Of our sins
In the sinking sky
